Emergency Response Exercise Set for May 10

Public agencies from five counties in southwest Washington will test their capacity to respond to a natural disaster in an exercise on Thursday, May 10.

Titled "Pacific Panda," the exercise conducted by Homeland Security Region 3, will include a simulated mass casualty response at the county property at 183rd and Sargent Road near Rochester from approximately 9:30 to 11:30 a.m

Participating organizations include emergency management agencies in Lewis, Thurston, Mason, Pacific and Grays Harbor counties as well as local fire districts and Lewis and Thurston county sheriff offices. InterCity Transit, Olympic Ambulance, American Medical Response, and the American Red Cross will also participate. The Great Wolf Lodge and the state Department of Corrections will support the exercise by making space at their facilities available.

Agencies are expected to test communications, citizen sheltering, incident management and mass care, which will include the use of volunteers made up to simulate injured victims. Questions about the exercise can be directed to Jesi Chapin at 360-867-2826.
