Thurston Co. WA - The week surrounding the 4th of July is one of the highest ranking time periods for impaired drivers to be on the road. Target Zero Task Force officers patrolled Thurston County in areas that have high fatality and serious injury crash rates, arresting 48 impaired drivers. The Task Force carried out this campaign from June 23rd - July 6th.-30-
Law enforcement from the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, Washington State Patrol , Olympia Police Department, Lacey PD, Tumwater PD, Chehalis Tribal PD, Tenino PD and Yelm PD patrolled these areas, funded by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission in the effort to reach ZERO deaths and serious injury by 2030.
"It is not the goal of Target Zero to make multiple arrests. We would rather see more people using sober drivers, taxi cabs, and getting home safely. We want to prevent these drivers from getting behind the wheel if they have used drugs or alcohol." says Brittany Sill, Target Zero Manager for Thurston County.
