OLYMPIA – The deadline is April 30th for Thurston County residents to pay first half property taxes. Notices of the tax were mailed to property owners February 8th. Some 119,000 parcels are impacted in the county. Analysis shows that about half of property owners will pay a bit less this time than they have in the past and the other half will pay a bit more. Voter approved levies and/or bonds account for the increase in many cases.-30-
Property taxes can be paid through the Thurston County Treasurer’s web site at http://www.co.thurston.wa.us/treasurer/ . There is no additional charge for the payment on-line. Payments can also be made at the Treasurer’s Office or the courthouse parking lot drop box at-2000 Lakeridge Drive SW, Building One, Olympia, 98502. The office hours are 9 a.m. to Noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Payments made by mail must be postmarked by April 30th. Penalties and interest will be charged for those who do not have their payments in on time.
In total, the Treasurer’s Office will collect about $304 million dollars in property taxes this year. The vast majority of those tax proceeds go to the state, schools and local taxing districts.
