Aug. 23 Earthquake Drill will Briefly Close Courthouse

Offices of Thurston County government will be briefly closed on Thursday, August 23 for an earthquake drill. County employees at the courthouse campus on Lakeridge Drive in Olympia will be asked to "drop, cover and hold" and then to briefly evacuate the buildings. Designated county employees will be located inside and outside the buildings to assist the public during the drill, which will last about ten minutes.

County staff will inform courthouse visitors of the drill and guide them to gathering areas. "We appreciate the patience of the public as we practice our emergency response," says Thurston County Commissioner Cathy Wolfe. "These exercises help prepare staff to protect courthouse visitors and themselves if and when a real emergency strikes."
