New Round of Storms Closes Roads Near Chehalis River

Several Thurston County roads near the Chehalis River are closed today due to water over the roadways. Several roads in Thurston County near the Chehalis River regularly flood with heavy rain, and drivers are reminded to use caution and not to drive on flooded roads:
  • Moon Road SW at 183rd Avenue SW
  • 215th Avenue SW at Zenkner Valley Road SW
  • 188th Avenue SW at Lucky Eagle Casino
  • Gravel portion of Anderson Road SW north of State Route 12

"Drivers should avoid flooded roads, even if they don't see any road closed signs," says Thurston County Emergency Manager Kathy Estes. "It only takes 18 inches of water to float a small car, so the rule of thumb is this--if you can't see the roadway under the water, don't drive through it."

More information about area flooding from recent storms and road closure updates are available on the Thurston County Emergency Management webpages at http://www.co.thurston.wa.us/em/EI/EI.htm.
