Traffic Safety Efforts Lauded at Special Event

OLYMPIA - Law enforcement officers who work to cut down on traffic fatalities and injuries will be recognized in special ceremonies December 21st. The "Night of 1,000 Stars" is an annual event that represents the 1,000 officers across Washington State working together to stop impaired driving. This event is a dedication to the law enforcement officers who risk their lives to protect the community, and to the families and victims of impaired and dangerous driving. On Friday, December 21, officers who have shown exceptional support and performance during Target Zero's 2012 High Visibility Enforcement Mobilizations will be honored. These individuals have gone above and beyond to make the roadways safer in Thurston County. Then, on Saturday, December 22nd, Target Zero will conduct DUI emphasis patrols throughout Thurston County in dedication to Night of 1,000 Stars.

Target Zero Thurston Task Force is sponsored by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission and local law enforcement. The task force collaborates with county, local and state law enforcement agencies as well as tribal law enforcement to reduce deaths and disabling injuries on the roadways. The task force works with the media to promote emphasis patrols as well as a variety of school and community programs that seek to educate young drivers and parents on traffic safety. For more information, contact Thurston County’s Target Zero Manager, Jerry Noviello, at 360-754-4272 or novielj@co.thurston.wa.us.
