Hearings set on Comprehensive Plan, Development Code, and Working Lands Plan.

OLYMPIA -- The Thurston County Board of County Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing June 1st regarding proposed changes to the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan, and associated joint plans with the Cities of Lacey, Olympia and Yelm. Public Hearings will also be held on amendments to the Thurston County development code and on the adoption of the Working Lands Strategic Plan.

Comprehensive Plan Chapter 4 Housing and Homeless Encampment Regulations. This contains amendments to ensure consistency between the Thurston County Consolidated Plan for Housing and the Comprehensive Plan. It also adds health and safety requirements to the Thurston County Zoning Ordinance (Title 20), Zoning Ordinance of the Lacey Urban Growth Area (Title 21), Tumwater UGA Zoning Ordinance (Title 22), and the Olympian UGA Zoning Ordinance (Title 23) for homeless encampments.

Chapter 3 Natural Resources. This consists of minor amendments to support the implementation of the proposed Working Lands Strategic Plan.

Olympia Joint Plan Parks and Recreation Chapter. This is to consider a previously adopted policy by the City of Olympia to define parks service area as including the City of Olympia and the Urban Growth Area.

Yelm Transportation Chapter. This revision provides updates to the transportation plan map and trail and bicycle map to show projects planned over the next 20 years in the unincorporated Yelm Urban Growth Area.

Lacey Updates – Joint Plan Land Use, Housing and Utilities Elements. Updates include housekeeping and demographic updates already adopted by the City of Lacey to reflect new information and to ensure consistency with the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan.

Modify Maximum Building Coverage. This is a development code amendment to allow public facilities to exceed the 6,000 square foot building size limitation in specified rural zones, and to remove lot size restrictions for the same facilities. Working Lands Strategic Plan. This is a strategic plan for Thurston County to establish a basis for encouraging a continued and coordinated approach to the preservation and economic viability of agricultural and forestry lands. The public hearings will begin at 5:30 pm June 1st at the Thurston County Courthouse Complex, 2000 Lakeridge Dr. SW, Olympia, WA 98502 in Room 280.
