Stream bug monitoring training set for June

Stream Team is seeking volunteers to monitor for stream bugs from June through August. Volunteers are invited to attend one of two free training sessions on either Thursday, June 10 or Tuesday, June 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Stream bugs, otherwise known as benthic macroinvertebrates, provide valuable information about water quality and the biological health of streams.

The training will cover the rationale for biological monitoring, the sampling protocol, and provide hands-on learning at a local stream. Both trainings will feature longtime fly fishermen as guest speakers.

Trained volunteers will sign up for one or more monitoring days. Registration is required. To register and learn the location of the workshop, call Ann Marie Finan at 754-3355 ext. 6857 or e-mail finanam@co.thurston.wa.us.
