With only one week to go until the Thurston County Fair's annual Spring Secondhand Safari, this weekend is your chance to clean out the clutter in preparation to make a tidy sum at the May 4 community garage sale. Whether you're buying or selling, Secondhand Safari is your chance to keep usable goods out of the landfill, making your spring just a bit greener.
Secondhand Safari is your chance to help Thurston County families in need by clearing out the clutter and stocking the cupboards. New this year is your chance to donate to the Thurston County Food Bank, with several bins set up for you to donate non-perishable food items. The Thurston County Food Bank typically serves 300 hungry families each day, so help us stock their cupboards with your food donations. Representatives from Goodwill Industries will also be on hand throughout the day to accept donations of household goods (at their discretion), giving sellers the chance to donate any of their unsold items at the end of the day.
If you're more of a collector than a cleaner, the Secondhand Safari will have just the thing you're looking for. Past Secondhand Safaris have brought over 175 vendors and 3,000 visitors, so avoid the crowds and snag that special something with early-bird admission for $2 from 8 to 9 a.m. Regular admission after 9 a.m. is only $1.
Outdoor spaces and covered spaces for the May 4 event are still available to anyone with gently used treasures to swap or sell. Call the Thurston County Fair Office at (360) 786-5453 to reserve your booth:
- $25 for outdoor booth, approximately 10x10 feet
- $40 for covered booth, approximately 10x10 feet
Set up for sellers will be on Friday, May 3 from noon to 10 p.m. The doors will be locked after set up Friday evening, and security will be on-site until the event opens Saturday.
Representatives from community groups, non-profits, businesses, agencies and individuals working on sustainability issues are invited to sign up for an educational booth or display. Contact the Fair Office at (360) 786-5453 for details.WHAT:Spring Secondhand Safari
