OLYMPIA- An underage drinking party last Saturday night in the Tumwater area resulted in 31 underage youth between the ages of 15 - 19 being arrested for minor in possession of alcohol. -30-
The party was reported by neighbors who called 911 after hearing a lot of noise coming from the Filly Ct SE home. Youth were consuming alcohol throughout the home, garage, and outside areas of the property. Beer and hard liquor bottles, as well as binge-drinking games were found throughout the house. All of the youth arrested by the Party Intervention Patrol (PIP) team were under the influence of alcohol. The 53-year-old homeowner was arrested for furnishing alcohol to minors.
"Young drivers represent a disproportionate number of vehicular deaths in Thurston County." Thurston County Target Zero Manager Jerry Noviello said. "Many of these deaths include youth that have been drinking and driving. By busting these underage binge drinking parties the Party Intervention Patrol is able to give all youth and their parents a set of resources that will help them to be safe and make better choices in the future."
Prior to busting this party, the Party Intervention Patrol team stopped a pick-up truck speeding through Capitol Forest with teenagers bouncing around in the truck bed. The teenage driver and 3 of the juveniles in the truck bed had been consuming alcohol. The driver was almost double the legal limit for over 21-year-old adults. The driver also had marijuana and marijuana related paraphernalia.
Party Intervention Patrol is administered by the Thurston County Target Zero Taskforce. It is a coordinated effort to reduce underage drinking in Thurston County and includes city, county, and state agencies. The project is funded by the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission. Thurston County residents who suspect an underage drinking party in their neighborhood are urged to call Olympia/Thurston County Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS with the information.
