Commissioners Name Interim County Manager

OLYMPIA -- Thurston County Commissioners today named Cliff Moore as the interim County Manager. Moore, the county's director of the Resource Stewardship Department, will step into his new role as interim County Manager on Friday, August 16. Current County Manager Don Krupp will spend two weeks with his family on a long-planned holiday, and will formally step down from his position at Thurston County on September 6. Krupp will begin his new job as the County Administrator for Clackamas County in Oregon later in September.

County Commission Chair Sandra Romero noted that Moore's 10 years working as a division and department director for the county gives him the necessary experience and knowledge that will be needed as Commissioners begin their budget deliberations for the coming year. "My colleagues and I are confident that Cliff has the kind of background and experience with the inner workings of the county organization to make a very smooth transition and to support us as we go through the budget process later this fall," said Romero.

Moore has served as the Director of the county's Resource Stewardship Department for the last four and a half years, working with a diverse staff in the recreation, stormwater, noxious weeds, and land use and permitting divisions, as well as the county fair and the county's WSU Extension office. Before moving into his role as a department director, Moore served six years as the Director of the WSU Thurston County Extension office.

"With the Resource Stewardship Department, I've had the opportunity to partner with a number of staff members and programs in other county departments, such as public health and public works. I'm looking forward to continuing our work together and making this a seamless transition as we approach budget season," said Moore.

Before coming to Thurston County, Moore worked for more than a decade as the Associate Director of Extended University Services for Washington State University in Pullman. Moore also has traveled extensively in Africa and Central America, working on rural development, agriculture and infrastructure projects with the Peace Corps and other international aid organizations.
