Thurston County Offices Conduct Earthquake Drill

OLYMPIA - Some Thurston County government offices will be closed for a short period on Thursday, August 15. The emergency training drill will begin at 1:15 pm and should last approximately 20 minutes. During that time, county employees will be taking part in a "Drop, Cover and Hold Earthquake Drill", immediately followed by an "Evacuation Drill".

During the evacuation, employees are to meet at their designated outside assembly location and report to their Office Emergency Coordinators for roll-call. Pre-assigned staff will assist with evacuating any citizens who may be present during the drill. Citizens will be directed to evacuate to the assembly area or asked to return upon completion of the training drill.

Thurston County employees and supervisors undergo drills and evacuations and practice "lock-down" procedures periodically to prepare for such emergencies. In that way, employees will be better able to serve and protect the public and each other in the case of a real life situation.
