Repairs Being Done to a Second Littlerock Road Bridge
Bridge will NOT have to be closed

OLYMPIA - Thurston County Public Works crews are applying repairs to another bridge along Littlerock Road south of Tumwater. Unlike the so called L-4 Bridge, this bridge will NOT have to be closed.

The L-5 Bridge is located between 113th Ave SW and 110th Ave SW, just south of the L-4 Bridge. It was built the same time as L-4 and is of the same design type. Engineering staff completed an inspection and found some of the same issues, scour and cracking, that are on the L-4 bridge. However, the scour (basically, wash out around a support pier) and the cracking are not to the same severity as L-4.

(Earlier, the L-4 Bridge was closed to all traffic due to scouring around support piers and significant cracking on the piers. After extensive study and deliberation, it was found that the public safety risk at L-4 was too high, due to the potential for collapse of the bridge, to allow it to stay open.)

Maintenance staff is preparing to perform repairs which will allow the L-5 Bridge to remain open. Traffic will be restricted to one lane at times over the next two weeks while repairs are being completed. Work on the L-5 Bridge was set to start today (Tuesday, March 11).
