OLYMPIA - The Thurston County Historic Commission is now accepting grant applications of up to $5,000 for projects aimed at promoting and preserving Thurston County’s heritage. The grant applications are due to Thurston County by noon on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010. Eligibility is limited to government entities, including Tribes, as well as nonprofit organizations registered with the Washington Secretary of State or classified as 501(c)(3).Grant applications are available online by clicking the “2010 Heritage Grant Program” link on www.co.thurston.wa.us/historic-commission. The website also provides information about how and where to submit applications.
The grants may be used for projects that involve professional development, public education, small capital facilities projects and collections management. For example, grants may provide funding for training, exhibits, research, acquisition and conservation of assets, historical research and archeological surveys.
Funding for the program comes from a portion of document-recording fees collected by the Thurston County Auditor and authorized by state law (RCW 36.22.170).
