L-4 Bridge Closure Set to Begin Aug. 11
Crews begin prep work July 14

Today, county commissioners approved the temporary closure schedule for the L-4 Salmon Creek Bridge on Littlerock Road SW so that construction crews can rebuild the failing bridge. Crews will begin preliminary work on the bridge Monday, July 14, and the bridge will close on Monday, August 11 for demolition of the old structure.

Beginning Monday, crews with Active Construction, Inc. will be working in the bridge area on Littlerock Road SW between 110th Avenue SW and 93rd Avenue SW. The bridge will continue to be restricted to only passenger vehicles that will use a single alternating lane. All heavy trucks must continue to use the detour route.

"We'll have crewmembers out there at the site and in the roadway starting next week, so we're reminding drivers in that area to take it easy and help keep our people safe by taking it slow and using caution in the construction zone," said Public Works Director Donavan Willcutt.

Between July 14 and August 11, crews will begin staging and preparing the bridge for closure and demolition. Commissioners approved a schedule that allows the bridge to be closed up to eight weeks, giving crews until Monday, October 6 to complete the first phase of the project. All motorists will need to use the detour route once the bridge closes August 11.

When the new bridge structure re-opens to traffic, crews will continue working on the bridge, and motorists using the bridge are asked to drive slowly and take caution in the active construction zone to help keep workers safe. The new bridge is expected to be complete by the end of the year.

The L-4 Salmon Creek Bridge on Littlerock Road SW located between 110th Avenue SW and 93rd Avenue SW was first closed on Monday, January 27 after structural deficiencies were discovered. In March, a modular temporary bridge structure called a Bailey bridge was installed at the L-4 Bridge crossing on Littlerock Road SW. With the help of crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation, the Bailey bridge opened Saturday, March 22 and has allowed passenger vehicles, buses and emergency vehicles to travel northbound and southbound using a single alternating lane. Heavy trucks continue to use the detour route.
