OLYMPIA/LACEY - Crews will be completing pedestrian safety improvements on Pacific Avenue as part of the new Chehalis Western Trail crossing starting on October 20th. The work will require intermittent lane closures on Pacific Avenue. At least one lane of traffic will be open in either direction for the entire duration of the work and a strong emphasis on keeping traffic impacts to a minimum during "rush hour" periods has been placed on the contractor. Some of the improvements include new sidewalks, a crosswalk, a pedestrian refuge island, pedestrian crossing signals, and other improvements.-30-
The Chehalis Western Trail - Pacific Crossing project is the last part of a multi-phase plan to improve safety for users of the Chehalis Western Trail from Martin Way to Pacific Avenue. This phase of the project started in 2013 and consists of constructing a shared-use path including a bridge over Pacific Avenue SW, large structural earth walls, ramps, and a roundabout where Woodland Trail meets the Chehalis Western Trail.
