New Requirements for Sale of Properties with Septic Start September 1st

OLYMPIA -- Thurston County Environmental Health implements a new sewage system inspection program effective September 1, 2010. When a property with an on-site sewage system (septic system) is sold or transferred, Thurston County regulations require a Time of Transfer Evaluation Report issued by Thurston County Health Department.

"The goal is to protect public health, to evaluate all septic systems, to identify and repair failing systems, and make records available to the public," said Steve Petersen, Environmental Health Program Manger.

The following is required to receive a Time of Transfer Evaluation Report:
  • Application and $170 fee
  • Pump and Service Report (Pumper's Report)
  • Inspection Report
  • Sketch of the system if a record drawing is not on file with the Health Department.

The pump and service report and the inspection report must be completed by an on-site sewage system professional that is certified in Thurston County. Full details and the required forms are available on-line at: www.co.thurston.wa.us/health/ehoss/soldprop.html
