Special Meeting Dec. 30 for Transportation Benefit District Proposal
Special commission meeting at 9:30 a.m. on ordinance to create TBD
The Thurston County Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, December 30 at
9:30 a.m. to consider an ordinance that would create a Transportation Benefit District in unincorporated Thurston County. Commissioners are considering the creation of the district to address the growing need
for maintenance and preservation of the county's roads, bridges, and transportation infrastructure.
Thurston County Commissioners signaled their unanimous support for creating the transportation benefit district at the public hearing for the ordinance on Dec. 16. If commissioners approve the ordinance on Dec. 30, the three commissioners would form the district's board of directors. The board of directors would then consider several items in early 2015, including a district charter and bylaws, contracts for administrative and engineering services, the development of a district work plan that would include specific transportation projects, and the implementation of certain revenue sources available to transportation benefit districts, such as a $20 annual car licensing fee.
