Planning Commission Public Hearing Mar. 18
Public comment invited on two Development Code Docket items

The Thurston County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. for two items that are part of the Development Code Docket. The public is invited to participate in informed discussion, and testimony will be accepted at the March 18 hearing. The Planning Commission may act on the proposal at the close of the hearing.

Land Use Permitting Appeal Procedures
The first item is a proposal to amend the land use permitting appeal procedures to remove the Board of County Commissioners from the appeal process, and instead direct all Hearing Examiner appeals to Superior Court. Currently, Thurston County Code directs appeals of a Hearing Examiner decision on land use permits to the Board of County Commissioners, and any appeal of a Board of County Commissioners decision is then appealed to Superior Court. This proposed amendment would eliminate the appeal step heard by the Board of County Commissioner and direct all Hearing Examiner appeals to Superior Court.

Adding Wetland Rating System Updates to Critical Areas Ordinance
The second item is a proposed amendment to the Wetlands Chapter in the Critical Areas Ordinance. The amendment incorporates recent updates to the Washington State Department of Ecology wetland rating system. In 2014, the Department of Ecology updated their wetland rating system to better reflect the scientific accuracy of the tools. The county's Critical Areas Ordinance requires the use of the most recently approved version of the wetland rating system, and the proposed amendment would incorporate those recent updates.
