Olympia- Thurston County Commissioners have selected seven County residents to serve on the Treatment Sales Tax Advisory Committee. -30-
The newly formed committee will provide funding recommendations to the Board on the use of Treatment Sales Tax funding each year during the budget process. The recommendations will be based on strategic plans (Thurston Thrives, Law and Justice Strategies, etc.) and performance reviews of existing programs provided by Treatment Sales Tax staff.
Members of the Advisory Committee were appointed by Commissioners for staggered terms of three years. The Advisory Committee shall be subject to the Open Public Meetings Act, chapter 42.30 RCW. Advisory Committee members, or their immediate family, will have no commitment, investment, obligation, or substantive involvement (financial or otherwise), in any agency contracting with, submitting any proposals to, or is expected to submit any proposals for the Treatment Sales Tax funds. A former Committee member may submit proposals to the Treatment Sales Tax fund only following a minimum of one full calendar year after the date of their official departure from the Committee.
Thurston County Commission Chair Cathy Wolfe says the committee members will be an important part of the decision process. "We very much appreciate the willingness of the committee members to give of their time and energy to review the TST funding applications. The programs funded help all of us by providing substance abuse and mental health programs in the community to those who really need the assistance."
