Auditor’s Office Receives Award for Financial Reporting
OLYMPIA – The Thurston County Auditor's Financial Services Team received their 14th straight Annual Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The Government Financial Officers Association honored Thurston County for going above and beyond in financial reporting.
"Our team really excels in making sure the public can take a deep look into county finances," said Mary Hall, Thurston County Auditor. This award follows the county's fifth straight clean financial statement audit from the State Auditor's Office last year.
Thurston County is one of only a few counties in Washington that goes beyond the state auditor's minimum requirements by producing a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement recognizes the CAFR for the 2019 fiscal year, the most recent report available.
"While our team was assembling the CAFR report, we were in the midst of pandemic office closures and a lot of uncertainty about county finances," Hall said. "Our financial team did not lose focus. They reached out to help other county departments while keeping a close eye on financial reporting. I could not be prouder of their work."
Each CAFR covers a fiscal year (January 1 through December 31). Financial staff are currently assembling the CAFR covering the 2020 fiscal year. CAFRs from previous years are available on the Auditor's Financial Reports webpage
The Auditor's Financial Services team provides direct financial services and guidance to Thurston County offices and departments in the areas of accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, financial reporting, and grants management.
