OLYMPIA – On August 29, 2023, Elderberry Street SW between US 12 and 196th Avenue will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for a mill and fill pavement preservation project.

“Mill and fill” is a road maintenance and repair technique to extend the lifespan of deteriorating asphalt. In this process, the top layer of the existing road surface, which has seen significant wear and tear due to traffic and weather conditions, is removed through milling. The milling machine grinds away the damaged asphalt, creating a smooth and even surface. Once the milling is complete, the freshly exposed base is cleaned of debris and refilled with new asphalt material. This overlay restores the road’s structural integrity, enhances ride quality, and improves safety for motorists.
