HOW THIS PROJECT RELATES TO THE NISQUALLY SUBAREA PLAN UPDATE PROJECT

The Nisqually Subarea Plan (NSAP) Asphalt Recycling Policy E.5 Review project is a separate project from the Nisqually Subarea Plan (NSAP) Update.

The Nisqually Subarea Plan Asphalt Recycling Policy E.5 Review project was initiated in response to the submittal by Lakeside Industries, Inc. of a formal application requesting a specific change to an existing policy. Any resident or company can submit an application and request specific changes to existing policies. The County accepts these types of applications during a set time period each year.

In comparison, the Nisqually Subarea Plan Update project was initiated by the County and the purpose is to review the existing plan to determine what if any changes are necessary to ensure the plan will meet the community’s needs and accommodate the projected growth out to 2040.

HOW ARE THE TWO PROJECTS DIFFERENT?

  1. One of the key differences between the two types of projects is who pays for them. The costs for a project initiated in response to a citizen or private organization’s application must be covered entirely by the applicant. The County requires the applicant to reimburse them for all work performed relating to the project. This does not give the applicant any control over the project; it is simply the County recovering the costs of reviewing the requested policy amendment.
  2. The scope of a project that is in response to an application for a policy amendment is much narrower and is looking only at the requested policy change.
