Last Week for Public Comment on Development Code Changes for 2016-2017
Proposed list now available on the Thurston County website.

If you would like to comment on which development regulations Thurston County officials should target for change in 2016-2017, this is the last week to do so. The public comment period closes on Friday, November 13 at 5 p.m.

Thurston County asked the public to review and comment on its "2016-2017 Preliminary Docket of Development Code Amendments." The preliminary docket is a list of development code amendments being considered for the Official Docket. Once items are added to the Official Docket, the County's Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners will use the official list to determine which development codes they may work to amend in 2016-2017.

You can find the complete list of preliminary docket items on the County's website at www.thurstonplanning.org. Select "Proposed 2016-2017 Development Code amendments" under the News and Links section on the right.

Projects on the docket are prioritized into four tiers: Priority A, B, C and D. Subjects in the lower three tiers may not be addressed due to staff and budget constraints. Some of the proposed Priority A topics include amending the impact fee ordinance (Title 25) to add a deferral process and to add fire districts; amending sign regulations in all codes to conform to a recent Supreme Court decision; setting final regulations for state-licensed marijuana producers, processers and retailers; and considering more restrictions on fireworks.

After public review, the Thurston County Board of County Commissioners will select items from the Preliminary Docket for the Official Docket. That Official Docket then will be forwarded to the Thurston County Planning Commission for review. The Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners will hold public hearings on the merits of the items approved for the Official Docket prior to adoption of any final regulations.
