McDuff Road in Thurston County Reduced to Single Lane
Damaged roadway means one lane open traffic

OLYMPIA - A section of McDuff Road in Southeast Thurston County has had one lane closed after a mudslide caused damage along one lane. The impacted area is between 143rd Ave SE and Nature Lane SE.

Thurston County Road crews have installed an automated traffic signal in the area that allows for alternating one-way traffic.

Thurston County Public Works Director Ramiro Chavez says keeping the road open for area residents is a priority. "The recent heavy rains appeared to have saturated a portion of the hillside, weakening the slope and damaging a portion of the road. We ask for patience of folks who live in the area while the one-lane restriction is in place."

Crews will continue to monitor the roadway and determine a permanent fix and work toward full re-opening of McDuff Road. There is no estimate yet, of when the road will be fully opened. Officials also continue to monitor other south Thurston County roads that were impacted by recent heavy rains.
