Thurston County Road Fully Open After Partial Lane Closure
Hawks Prairie Road NE back to two lanes

OLYMPIA - Drivers will find a section of Hawks Prairie Road NE a bit easier to navigate, now that a flooded section has been restored to two lanes. Officials had earlier closed one lane of Hawks Prairie Road NE between Carpenter Road and Eagle Drive NE, just east of Carpenter Road, due to water over the roadway.

At that time, 8 inches of water forced the closure of one lane and the installation of stop lights at either end of the flooded area. That allowed alternating one lane traffic to safely go through.

"We are happy to report that the waters have now receded enough to allow the roadway to be fully open. We appreciate the patience of motorists while the restrictions were in place." Says Road Operations Manager Lucy Mills. Crews were taking down the stop lights Friday afternoon.

Public Works officials will continue to monitor the area should heavy rains return.
