OLYMPIA - The Thurston County Transportation Benefit District Board (TBD), set a public hearing to take comments on a proposed yearly vehicle fee within unincorporated areas of Thurston County to fund transportation improvements.-30-
The hearing will be held August 16, 2016 at 3:00 pm (or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard) at the Thurston County Court House, 2000 Lakeridge Dr., Building One, Room 280. The TBD will take comments on a proposed $20 annual vehicle license fee within unincorporated Thurston County. Proceeds would fund various transportation related projects in the unincorporated areas of the county under the management of the Thurston County Transportation Benefit District.
The three main goals of the TBD program are preservation of transportation infrastructure (including bridges), improved safety for the driving public, and increased use of technology. Projects could include pavement preservation and updating bridges to current standards. The TBD Board, composed of the County Commissioners, will approve an annual work plan including specific projects.
TBD President Cathy Wolfe says, "We need to do what is necessary to preserve our existing infrastructure, improve roadway safety, and address congestion as our community continues to grow."
Board member Sandra Romero says, "It is becoming more and more challenging to keep up with the repair demands of our aging transportation infrastructure."
"Traffic and transportation issues and funding impact all of us here in Thurston County. That's why it is important for county residents to come to the public hearing and let us know their opinion," says TBD vice President Bud Blake.
