Diane Oberquell, Thurston County Commissioner, 360-786-5440

Commissioner Oberquell Named to National Panel

OLYMPIA – Thurston County Commission Chairman Diane Oberquell has been named to a committee of the National Association of Counties (NACO).  Oberquell, a 19-year member of the Thurston County Commission, was recently notified of her appointment to the Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee of NACO.  NACO President Eric Coleman said it was his pleasure to confirm Oberquell's appointment to the committee.  "A great deal of NACO's strength is in its committees and that strength is reflected in the commitment and active participation revealed throughout our committee structure."

Oberquell says she is pleased to accept the appointment.  "As County Commissioners we deal directly with many justice-related issues that impact county residents.  But it is also valuable to have the kind of overall policy discussions that are conducted by NACO committees.  I'm honored to serve on this important committee that is concerned with public safety, an issue that is very important to me personally as well."

Oberquell has served on numerous other national and statewide posts over the years.  She currently serves as chair of The Washington Emergency Management Council (EMC).  The EMC has the responsibility to advise the governor and the director (Adjutant General) of the Washington Military Department on all matters pertaining to state and local emergency management.

Oberquell begins her duties on the National Association of Counties Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee immediately.
