Thurston County will close the Drop Box site on Summit Lake Drive at the end of March. The site's last day of operation will be Sunday, March 27.
Utilities Services Manager Scott Schimelfenig reports that the decision was based on budgetary concerns and diminishing use of the site. "On a given Sunday, we're down to five or six visitors," he said, "it's just not cost-effective to continue to maintain it." Schimelfenig adds that the introduction of curbside garbage and recycling collection has reduced the need served by the Drop Box site. Residents may also dispose of trash and recyclables at the Waste and Recovery Center (WARC) at Hawks Prairie, 2418 Hogum Bay Road N.E. in Lacey. Call the WARC at 867-2491 or visit www.co.thurston.wa.us/solidwaste/index.htm for details on hours and rates.
Curbside garbage and recycling collection for the Summit Lake area, including seasonal service, is provided by Pacific Disposal of LeMay, Inc., at 923-0111, or firstname.lastname@example.org
