OLYMPIA – You are invited to join Thurston County’s 13th year celebrating National Adoption Day. Thurston County Family and Juvenile Court will be holding a special event to celebrate all families who adopt and help raise awareness of the more than 2,000 legally free children in Washington State foster care awaiting a forever family.
Many judges, government agencies, lawyers, private individuals, families, and programs have joined together to commemorate this special day. The highlight of the event will be several local families publicly finalizing their adoptions.

National Adoption Day is celebrated in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. In Thurston County, more than a thousand children have been adopted by stepparents, domestic partners, individuals, and couples since the county began celebrating the day in 2004. These families make a real difference in the lives of children and in our community.
The Adoption Day celebration will begin at 4:00 p.m., with refreshments and reception to follow. Children will be able to participate in activities including Booker T. Bear and craft projects from the Hands on Children’s Museum.
This event is sponsored by Thurston County Superior Court, Family and Juvenile Court, Washington State Department of Social and Health Services – Children’s Administration, Thurston County Bar Association, and many local area businesses.
