Public Invited to Weigh in on Shoreline Code Changes
Commissioners want the public to help define the County’s shoreline regulations

OLYMPIA –Thurston County is working on updating the codes that regulate building and development on shorelines within the County’s jurisdiction. Officials are encouraging interested community members to participate in the process and have already hosted a number of meetings. 

The next meeting will be on January 30, 2018 in Building 1, Room 152 of the Thurston County Courthouse Complex, at 2000 Lakeridge Dr. SW in Olympia. 

What:   Community Stakeholder Meeting on Proposed Updates to the Shoreline Master Plan
When:  Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

6:15 p.m.   Review of Comments from Previous Regulatory Group and Planning Commission Meetings, including:
6:20 p.m.   Review Shoreline Master Program (SMP) Information Available on New SMP Website
6:35 p.m.   Overview of Chapter 300 of DRAFT SMP, Includes section on Goals and Policies.
6:50 p.m.   Discuss Comments from Community Stakeholder Group on Chapter 300 of DRAFT SMP Document (and any additional comments on Chapters previously discussed)

The Shoreline Master Program currently being used by the County has been in place since 1990. New rules from Washington’s shoreline regulatory body, Department of Ecology (DOE), have prompted updates to shoreline programs in counties throughout the state, including Thurston County.
