County to Host Open House on Proposed Land Use Amendment for The Evergreen State College
OLYMPIA –The Thurston County Community Planning and Economic Development department will hold an informational open house on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm on a proposed land use amendment and associated rezone of The Evergreen State College campus. The public will have the opportunity to comment on the proposal during a Planning Commission hearing for the Comprehensive Plan Update in late 2018.

The Evergreen State College requested an amendment to their current land use designation, Rural Residential Resource 1/5. The request is to change the current land use designation to a new institutional zone that reflects the current land use, which is an existing public college. The Comprehensive Plan identifies an institutional land use designation for Evergreen State College, but the County does not currently map any of this designation, or have development standards in place. The proposed change would allow the college greater flexibility to plan for development of the campus, consistent with its current use.
Thurston County is drafting development standards for an institutional land use designation that could be applied to The Evergreen State College or other higher education institutions. The public will have the opportunity to comment on any proposed map changes and development standards, as part of the Comprehensive Plan Update, in late 2018.
