OLYMPIA - Thurston County Commissioner Sandra Romero has scheduled an open house meeting for September 28th for neighbors of the proposed Nisqually Tribal jail. Romero says there have been a lot of questions and requests for information and the open house is a good way to respond. "The county has very limited impact on this situation which is really between the sovereign Nisqually Nation and the federal government. But what we can do is facilitate this meeting between concerned neighbors and representatives of the Tribe."
Members of the Nisqually Tribe will be on hand to explain the project and to answer questions. County staff will be in attendance as well to answer questions about the role of county government in such a situation. They can also speak to issues regarding interaction with other jurisdictions and about tribal sovereignty.
