Prepare Because You Care: EXPO, Oct. 29

How wet and cold will this winter be? What's the likelihood of earthquakes and landslides in Thurston County? What's something I can do today to prepare my family for disaster? These and other questions will be addressed at the Emergency Preparedness Expo on Saturday, October 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Marcus Pavilion and Worthington Conference Center at Saint Martin's University.

Speakers at the annual free event will be Ted Buehner of the National Weather Service, geologist Timothy Walsh on earthquake and landscape hazards, and Vivian Eason of Thurston County Emergency Management on personal emergency preparedness.

The free event also features kid's activities, prizes, emergency supplies and demonstrations on fire extinguisher operation, dry food canning, generator, and electrical safety. More than 40 information and resource booths will be staffed by local preparedness experts including representatives of the Hearing, Speech & Deafness Center. An ASL interpreter will also be on hand. The event is wheelchair accessible.

Details on the Expo are available by visiting www.co.thurston.wa.us/em/expo or contacting Vivian Eason at easonv@co.thurston.wa.us or (360) 786-5243.
