Thurston County Commissioners Appoint Acting Treasurer.

OLYMPIA – Thurston County Commissioners have selected Steve Larson as acting county Treasurer. Larson, a long-time employee, is the Systems Manager for the office. Larson will serve as Treasurer until an interim Treasurer is chosen, which is expected within the next two months.

Thurston County Commission Chair Sandra Romero says appointing the acting treasurer will allow the official replacement process to be followed. “We feel the Treasurer’s Office will be well run under Steve’s guidance. This temporary appointment will allow the time needed for the replacement process to proceed, as described in state statutes.”

County Treasurer Robin Hunt today (4-2-10) formally submitted her resignation triggering the replacement process. That means County Commissioners have 60 days to name an interim treasurer who would serve until the end of the year. The interim treasurer would be chosen from a list of three nominees put forth by the Thurston County Democratic party. Voters will then choose a new treasurer in the November General Election and that person’s term would begin in 2011.
