Parks Manager Urges Caution and Courtesy While Enjoying County Trails

With the arrival of warmer spring weather and sunny days, hundreds of walkers and bicyclists are using the county trail system every day. Parks Manager Kerry Hibdon reminds users to exercise caution and courtesy on the trail. "While we're delighted to see more and more people of all ages on our trails," he says, "the increased volume increases the need for caution and courtesy to avoid collisions and injuries."

Hibdon urges bicyclists to slow down when approaching pedestrians and to use audible devices such as a bell to alert walkers and other bicyclists of their approach. He also urges pedestrians to be aware of their surroundings and of other users."With a diversity of non-motorized users on our trails," says Hibdon, "courtesy and common sense are indispensable to safe enjoyment and recreation."

Details on the county's 47.5 miles of trails are available at www.co.thurston.wa.us/parks/ or by calling Thurston County Parks and Recreation at 754-4371.
