County to Participate in Multi-Jurisdictional Earthquake Exercise, June 5

Thurston County Emergency Management will participate in "Evergreen Quake," a multi-county exercise on Tuesday, June 5. The county's Emergency Operations Center will be activated and respond as if a series of catastrophic earthquakes hit the region. The exercise, which includes King, Kitsap, Pierce, Skagit and Snohomish counties as well as tribal, state and federal agencies, will test emergency communication and coordination among participating jurisdictions.

"We participate in emergency exercises every year to keep our systems up to date and our staff prepared to respond to real disasters," says Emergency Management Director Kathy Estes.

The June 5-6 functional exercise is the first phase of the Evergreen Quake Exercise. That will be followed by a logistics exercise June 12-14. (Thurston County will participate on June 5 and June 14 only). The series concludes with recovery exercise tabletops on August 8 and 22. Details on the exercise series are available at www.emd.wa.gov/training/EvergreenQuake.shtml
