Public Hearing for Accountability and Restitution Center Permit


OLYMPIA - The City of Tumwater, on July 25th, will conduct a public hearing regarding the request for a permit for changes to Thurston County's Accountability and Restitution Center (ARC). The ARC is located at 3491 Ferguson Street SW in the Mottman Industrial Park area of Tumwater. The county is requesting approval of a Conditional Use Permit and Variance to expand the corrections facility.

The expansion includes:

Work Release Unit- This unit would utilize a vacant office/warehouse building in the northeast portion of the ARC site. This building would be remodeled and expanded by approximately 1,000 square feet to 7,000 square feet to accommodate a 100-bed segregated Work Release facility for men and women. Also included would be a video visitation area and parking for approximately 29 vehicles.

Flex Housing Unit- This unit would be built in an undeveloped portion of the ARC site and would include 21,000 square feet containing 116 beds. The new unit would be connected to the existing ARC building.

ARC Housing Modifications- Approximately 40 beds would be added to the ARC building through double-bunking and the addition of four beds to each 64-bed dormitory in the building. No new square footage would be added. When completed, the ARC facility would contain a total of 392 beds.
