Final Two Days at the Thurston County Fair for Saturday Aug 3

There are only two more days of laughter and ladybugs at the Thurston County Fair before it closes out another year, but there is still a ton of friends, food and fun to be had on Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4 at the fair.

For more information about the fair's Saturday and Sunday events and other fair entertainment, go to www.co.thurston.wa.us/fair and click on "Daily Events Calendar. "

Saturday, Aug. 3
Saturday's festivities kick off with the Thurston County Commissioners' Annual Pancake Breakfast. The August 3 breakfast event is free with admission to the fair, and commissioners serve up the syrup and all of the delicious breakfast treats from 8:30 to 10 a.m. The fun and festivities continue with the Savor South Sound wine tastings, and the Live & Local concert series featuring Dennis Hastings, Scott & Dani, and rising country superstars Aces Up. Saturday also features the annual Market Animal Sale at 6 p.m.

If you're craving pie over pancakes, be sure to enter Saturday's Dessert of the Day contest. The annual "Berry Best Pie" contest is sponsored by Spooner Berry Farms, and every fairgoer who brings their "berry best" pie creation gets free admission to the fair on Saturday. Pies using cream, custard, cream cheese, Jello-O, or other ingredients requiring refrigeration will not be accepted. All entries must include the recipe with contestant's name, address, and phone number. Final judging for the cash prize sponsored by Spooner's Berry Farms begins at 4 p.m. in the Thurston Expo Center. Check the 2013 Exhibitor's Guide for all of the Dessert of the Day contest rules at www.co.thurston.wa.us/fair/exhibitor_guide.htm.

The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 3.
