County Prosecutor Investigates Animal Abuse Case
7-week-old puppy in protective custody

On Wednesday, June 11, the Thurston County Prosecutor's Office received a referral from Thurston County Animal Services documenting their investigation of complaints of abuse of a 7-week-old German Sheppard mix puppy known as "Bella" from the Lacey area. During theirinvestigation, Animal Services obtained a search warrant authorizing them to take custody of the puppy pending further investigation.

After reviewing the information contained in the referral,we have initiated a criminal investigation with the assistance of the Lacey Police Department. This office will make a final determination as to whether criminal charges are warranted oncelaw enforcement has completed this criminal investigation.

In the meantime, the puppy is currently safely housed and receiving care at Animal Services. By law, Animal Services may retain custody of this puppy during the criminal investigation, unless acourt orders otherwise.
