Candidate Filing Week Update
Primary elections to be held in the Cities of Tenino and Yelm

OLYMPIA, WA – By the close of business on Tuesday, May 12, the Thurston County Auditor's Office had received candidate filings from 63 people for various positions up for election in Thurston County this fall. The 76 positions up for election in Thurston County include Superior Court judge, Port of Olympia commissioners, mayors, city and town council members, school district directors, fire protection district and fire authority commissioners, parks and recreation district commissioners, and cemetery district commissioners.

For nonpartisan elections, primary elections are held only if more than two candidates file for the same office. The top two vote-getters in the primary election will advance to the November 3 General Election.

As of today, primary elections will be tentatively held on Tuesday, August 4 in the cities of Tenino and Yelm. Candidates have until Monday, May 18 at 4:30 p.m. to withdraw their candidacy, which may affect whether a primary election will occur.
