Candidate Filing Week Summary
Primary elections for Olympia, Tenino, Yelm, port, Centralia School District

OLYMPIA, WA – A total of 105 people filed for elected office in Thurston County by the end of candidate filing week on Friday, May 15. Primary elections will be held on Tuesday, August 4 for the following positions:
  • Port of Olympia, Districts No. 1 and 3
  • City of Olympia, Mayor
  • City of Olympia, City Council, Position No. 2
  • City of Tenino, Mayor
  • City of Tenino, City Council, Position No. 5
  • City of Yelm, City Council, Position No.6
  • Centralia School District No. 401-L, Director, Position No. 2

"I'm very excited that so many candidates have stepped up to run for office. These local officials make the hard decisions that affect our lives on a daily basis," state Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall."

Candidates have until Monday, May 18 at 4:30 p.m. to withdraw their candidacy, which may affect whether a primary election will occur. The full list of candidates who have filed is available on ThurstonVotes.org.

For non-partisan elections, primary elections are held only if more than two candidates file for the same office. The top two vote-getters in the primary election will advance to the November 3 general election.
