Thurston County’s Board of County Commissioners today heard budget-cut proposals from the county’s elected officials and department heads as part of an effort to slash spending and lay the groundwork for a significantly reduced 2026 budget.

Thurston County will begin accepting applications for proposed amendments to its land-use, zoning and development codes starting September 15, 2025, and running through November 14, 2025. Anyone may apply for a Comprehensive Plan or Development Code amendment during that time.

The expo will be hosted at The Olympia Center on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. This free, family-friendly event offers hands-on activities, and valuable resources to help individuals and families prepare for emergencies.

The Thurston County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) will host a public hearing on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 to receive and consider public testimony on the 2025 Flood Hazard Mitigation Plan Update.

Marilyn Strickland (D-WA) joined officials from Thurston County government on Wednesday to celebrate a landmark project for community safety, collaborative funding and waterway restoration with the opening of a new bridge on Country Club Road over Green Cove Creek in unincorporated Thurston County.
