About Wildland Urban Interface

Builders and developers in Washington will have new fire safety regulations to meet. The new rules, referred to as the 2021 Wildland Urban Interface Code (WUI or WUIC), were approved by the state’s legislature in November 2022, and will be adopted into the State Building Code July 1, 2023.

Thurston County government, and other permitting municipalities are required to enforce the new provisions as of that date.
